It was Daisy, a retired Guide Dog who is sadly no longer with us, who lead me to clinical canine massage therapy. When Daisy came to us, at age 8, she had really bad skin and was already showing signs of arthritic changes. My husband, a vet, tried all sorts of drugs and shampoos but nothing helped. I went on a search to find something to help her. What I found changed both our lives, I found Clinical Canine Massage Therapy and thought, if massage helps me and my back issues, surely it must help Daisy. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a therapist close to where I live, so decided to train in it myself! For two years, the duration of the course, Daisy became my teacher. She came to the south of England with me on workshops. She sat under the kitchen table as I learned muscles, insertions, origins and theories. She allowed me to use her body to learn. In the end she didn’t need the help of drugs to manage her pain until the last few months of her life. Daisy was the perfect teacher and it is all thanks to her, and her patience, that I can now help other dogs. Seeing how just one session can brighten the eyes of these amazing creatures constantly gives me such joy.
